Privacy Policy

Last updated November 2, 2026

Dear Mochi is a small business run by Helen in San Jose, California (“Dear Mochi”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect when you visit dearmochi.com, join our waitlist or order postcards, and what we do with it.

The short version: we use your information to make and send your postcards and to tell you about Dear Mochi. We never sell it, and we delete your pet’s photos after your order ships.

What we collect

  • When you order: your name, email, shipping address and (if you give it) phone number. You enter these on our checkout page, which is run by Stripe.
  • Payment details: handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Your postcard: the photo you upload, your pet’s name, the line you write, and the choices you make (design, letter, Santa hats).
  • When you join the waitlist: your email address, and anything else you choose to tell us.
  • When you browse: basic technical information such as your browser, device and the pages you visit, collected by our host’s privacy-friendly analytics. We don’t use advertising trackers.
  • On your own device: while you design a postcard, your draft is saved in your browser so it’s still there if you leave and come back. It stays on your device and is cleared after you order.

How we use it

  • To print your postcards and mail them to you.
  • To send your receipt, order updates and tracking information.
  • To answer your questions and fix any problems with your order.
  • To tell you about Dear Mochi, if you joined the waitlist or ordered. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
  • To keep the records the law requires, such as sales and tax records, and to prevent fraud.

Who we share it with

Only the services that help us run Dear Mochi, and only what each one needs:

  • Stripe, to take payments and work out sales tax.
  • Vercel, which hosts our website and stores orders and photos.
  • Loops, which sends our emails.
  • Anthropic, whose AI finds your pet’s head so the Santa hat lands in the right spot. When you upload a photo, a small, resized copy is sent for this one purpose.
  • Our print partner, who receives your postcard design to print it.
  • Pirate Ship and the US Postal Service, which receive your name and address to deliver your order.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

  • Pet photos are deleted 30 days after your order ships.
  • Photos uploaded for an order that wasn’t completed are deleted within 30 days.
  • Order records (your name, address, what you bought and what you paid) are kept as long as we need them for taxes, accounting and customer support.
  • Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what information we have about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing hello@dearmochi.com. California residents have these rights under California law, and we honor them for everyone. We won’t treat you differently for asking.

We don’t track you across other websites, so we don’t respond differently to “Do Not Track” browser settings.

Children

Dear Mochi is for grown-ups who love their pets. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Keeping it safe

Your photos and orders are stored privately and are only visible to us. Our website uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is perfect, but we work to protect what you share with us.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll let customers know by email.
